When Sturgeon Moon started in the beginning of August, I prepared a spread – if you remember I shared it with you – the spread was about illuminating intentions and the spread was dedicated to the New Sturgeon Moon. But later on, as I was going through my notes I noticed an old Sturgeon Moon spread that I found extremely interesting. The full moon in August 2024 is a Supermoon and Blue Moon
Yes, the full moon in August 2024 is notable for a couple of reasons:
It is a Supermoon
The full moon on August 19, 2024, is classified as a “supermoon.” This means it will be at its closest point to Earth in its orbit, known as perigee, making it appear larger and brighter than usual. Supermoons are a bit more special because they provide a dramatic visual effect, with the moon seeming up to 14% larger and 30% brighter than when it is at its farthest point from Earth.
It is a Blue Moon
August 2024 will also feature a second full moon, which is referred to as a “Blue Moon.” This is because the full moon on August 19 is the second full moon of the month. Blue Moons occur roughly every two to three years, making them relatively rare.
So, if you read my old post, you already know the August’s full Moon is traditionally called the Sturgeon Moon. In short, it is called the Sturgeon Moon according to ancient Indian tradition because the giant sturgeon of the Great Lakes and Lake Champlain were most readily caught during this part of summer. These prehistoric-looking fish have been traced back to around 136 million years ago and many people call them “living fossils.” Aha! Here comes my revelation. I can read from the Chariot reversed that obstacles may arise from a lack of direction or control. She might face internal conflicts or struggle with maintaining focus and determination.
